It came out in
1997 on Dyslexic Records.
Thanks to Steve Prough for typing up all this hoohah.
1992 brought the last of the Naked Raygun songs to the studio. The four songs recorded became known as the "Last
Demo" and were originally recorded at A.R.S. in Blue Island, IL by Martin Stebbing. Having misplaced the 24
track tape and wanting to remix it, the band recorded and mixed down the four songs with Steve Albini at his studio
in Chicago on March 1st & 2nd, 1997. The songs feature the line-up from the late '80's, including Pierre Kezdy-Bass,
Eric Spicer-Drums, Bill Stephens-Guitar,
and Jeff Pezzati-Vocals.
He never tried so hard.
Never tried so long.
Something he had dreams of.
For something he had longed for.
He never climbed so high.
He shouldn't have climbed so high.
That when they beat him down.
He couldn't get off the floor (and)
Whoah ho whey oh.
Then he went right off the edge.
[And he went right off the edge. (said) - 2x]
She never talked 'bout dreams
She never talked her dreams.
For fear what she'd be thought of.
For fear what she was thinking.
She never thought so hard.
She shouldn't of thought so hard.
That she snapped inside
and then she hit the floor (and)
(Chorus with 'she')
Whoa ho whey oh
[And we all go off the edge. - 2x]
Whoa ho whey oh
[As we all go off the edge. - 2x]
Whoa ho whey oh
[And we went right off the edge - 2x]
Whoa ho whey oh
[As we go right off the edge. - 2x]
See my face, its blood red with warpaint
and there's no way out, but to fight this time.
The bastard dies and I've got a right.
Take what I want - bad ass & bithcin',
I've got hot atomics in my brain - bass ass & bitchin',
I move pretty good, yeah - bad ass & bitchin',
got hot atomics in my brain - bad ass & bitchin'.
I know when I see you,
you know I don't fear you.
Next time I see you, I'll cut your eye.
Take what I want - bad ass & bitchin',
I've got hot atomics in my brain - bad ass & bitchin',
I move pretty good when I see you - bad ass & bitchin',
I've got hot atomics in my brain - bad ass & bitchin',
I'm the one, goin' off, walk away, and I'm hurtin'.
You know I'll beat it out of you.
Feel pretty good yeah, bad ass & bitchin',
I've got hot atomics in my brain - bad ass & bitchin',
move pretty good when I see you, bad ass & bitchin'.
I got hot atomics in my brain.
Yeah hot atomics in my brain,
can't you see 'em comin' on.
You're like hot atomics in my brain,
yeah you're the one.
She sits at home with the TV on.
(She) She cry's all night cause her life's not getting on.
Gets home from work and he down's a beer.
Smashes his fist cause the pain can't mask the fear.
[I gotta get - 3x] out - 2x]
[I can see this is not the way its supposed to be - 2x]
(She) She left her home had to be alone.
She left mom and dad she had to get at on her own.
He left his home and he left his job.
Gets in his car and he rips down the road.
[I gotta get - 3x] out - 2x]
[I can see this is not the way its supposed to be - 2x]
[He's got his home and he's got his job.
Yet he feels alone cause he's dead inside - 2x]
Smashes his fist cause the rage can't mask the fear.
[I gotta get - 3x] out - 2x]
[(It's not) the way its supposed to be. - 15x]
(with Elizabeth Elmore of Sarge)
I've got nothing 'gainst he greats.
Fact the truth is you kinda like 'em a little.
Great men built all that you see.
what you see burns a hole right through you.
I'm feelin' tired all the time.
Feelin' tired's just a big excuse for you.
I got nothin' 'gainst the greats.
The more you try the less you'll be just like them.
Could you be right?
What makes you both so sure you'll will stand
up in spite, stand up to spite on you?
You can't be right.
Can't there be somethin' that'll help see the
light, help you see the light you fools.
I got nothing 'gainst the pain.
The pain you feel is nothin' great you know.
I feel for those who do not have.
You keep talking and its just lip ya know.
I want to reach the great masses.
You don't do it by sitting in your tower.
I want to teach what I know.
What you teach no one wants to learn.
All of your might, all your strength will not make
them take flight, make them retreat from you.
And when you're right, not that we think you are,
but what you are right, then you will think as we do.
Originally written and recorded by Pierre Kezdy for the mid 1980 band - Trial by Fire, "Giveaway" was recorded by Naked Raygun on April 21, 1987 with Larry Sturm at Jericho Studio, Chicago, IL - during the Jettison session. This infamous version contains the 9/8 time signature during the verse and features Pierre Kezdy-Bass, Eric Spicer-Drums, John Haggerty-Guitar, and Jeff Pezzati - Vocals.
Put on your coat and button your pride.
Take a deep breath and step outside.
Hide your hope tightly inside your fist-
to scared to think ya know you can't resist.
When a victory is sure,
you're not afraid to stir.
Plenty of yells to go around.
The other side is strong,
you might do something wrong.
(Then) nobody wants to make a sound.
[[Giving it all away. - 2x] Giving it all
of what you own. - 2x]
Metro, May 25th, 1986 (Memorial Day Show) in front of the hometown crowd, band line-up: Pierre Kezdy-Bass, Eric Spicer-Drums, John Haggerty-Guitar, Jeff Pezzati-Vocals. Recording thanks to (we believe) Adam Jacobs.
ooooohh, I am a fetus, I am a tumor,
I am the local slime mold.
[Hey - 17x]
I am a pupa, I am a larva, I am emperor Tojo.
[Hey - 17x]
Metastasis, metastasis. I am a lizard, I am a nymph,
I am a three-toed gecko.
[Hey - 17x]
Metastasis, metastasis.
[Hey - 16x]
The first european tour brought the band to Bielefeld, Germany on June 4, 1989. The club was called AJZ, the line-up was Pierre Kezdy, Eric Spicer, John Haggerty and Jeff Pezzati. Record thanks to Dino Galasso-the driving Scotsman.
Why me? Why am I down? Why feel I'm not whole?
Why feel so far below? I'm free to go.
Why dream? Why partake? Why be half of a weak
embrace of time and of place and lose space?
Deep down inside I know the reasons, reasons.
In faces I see lies. While they try to hide their
eyes. Man, it hurts inside.
It's like treason, treason. [treason - 3x]
Soft ground politics, inside dealing tricks.
I can't pick a side, you decide.
What plan? What design? Can they have in mind?
Have they lost their minds? Have I lost mine?
It's never just black or white. I know the reasons,
reasons. What I feel makes me alive goes beyond
what they decide, can't fight what gives you life
That's treason, treason. [treason - 3x]
You appear stage left all searching for you plan of life.
Youth of course on your side as they play the drum and fife.
Try to get you marching to the worn out song they preach.
About how things you hope for are so very out of reach.
Can't they even remember when they had hope (and dreams).
Adolescence fled the Adolescents sang while
you, you had no chance. Then before you even
knew your wife she got in line to be your first
romance. In the sunset of your best years you
piled on the debt. You think this really can't be
happening here not here not now not yet. You're
gonna regret this it's your big fall.
Well okay life's not what it used to be. We're trying
to become something that maybe wasn't meant
to be. We're now so totally up for grabs I hope
someone's left to see. Will the end justify the
means? Well it beats the heck out of me. In the
next round what will be be?
You take a break and you get stabbed in the back.
Are you tired of it? I am. It's not "Smear the queer."
Take a chance and you could fall on your face.
Least you know you tried and you can say you did.
Those who move 'round in little squares, pointing
at those who move. It never bothered me.
They've got a right to know, just what you're all about.
You're the one who moves. It never bothered me.
Those who gape, taking it all in, are tired of
them? I am. Leave.
I'm not the show. Not the one you're here for,
sad as that may seem. Goodbye.
They've got a right to know, just what you're all about.
You're the one who moves. It never bothered me.
They've got a right to know round in little
squares pointing at those who move. It never
bothered me.
They've got a right to know, just what you're all about.
You're the one who moves. It never bothered me.

Far far away, she comes to visit. And she has that easy goin' smile.
[It's where you live - 3x] Where you live.
Bowl of cliché, tears on paper. Hope looks good
upon your sleeve.
[Where you live - 4x]
Far far away, she comes to visit. And she has that
easy goin' smile.
[It's where you live - 3x] Where you live.

Santiago Durango, the co-founder and the man who coined the sound of Naked Raygun, wrote prolifically for the band in the early 1980's. But only a handful of his songs reached vinyl. The line-up on the next five songs was Jim Colao) the man with more rhythm than a boatload of Buddy Rich), Santiago Durango (who forgot more riffs than most songwriters ever pen), Jeff Pezzati-Vocals and Camilo Gonzales-Bass on Got Hurt, Marco Pezzati-Bass on System, Webb, Bananacuda, and New Dreams.
I'm so bored right now and I got hurt, got hurt, hurt.
I'm so tired right now. I'm sick of chasing you
around (the world).
I'm sick of chasing you around (the world). Got
hurt, got hurt, hurt.
They all ride the same train. It's called the
Ravenswood. They've got 2.3 children. Their overcoats
are tan.
[System - 4x]
They all work for the same pay. The loop is their
destination. They go back and forth on the tracks.
Their overcoats are tan.
[System - 4x]
They've all got two cars. And they wash them
every Sunday. And after they mow the lawn, they
go back to work on Monday.
I saw it from afar. It was standing there.
Promises of virtue fell at my door.
[I'm caught in a web - 4x]
They said it wasn't true. They said it was a lie.
They said it wasn't gold, but now it's only fool's gold.

It can be said upon their respective demise that Strummer/Jones wrote "White Riot", Pop/Bowie wrote "Lust for Life" and Santiago Durango wrote "New Dreams". Enough said.
Said I got new dreams.
[Got new dreams and I'm gonna make 'em real. - 3x]
Got new dreams and I'm gonna make them
[Oh way ohh, whey ohh way - 4x]

Got new dreams and I'm gonna make them
Ohh, oh, ohh, whey oh way.
These recordings were made of practices in the basement of the coach house at 1129 West Drummond, Chicago, IL. Recorded in mono, direct to cassette. Got hurt was recorded in July of 1983, the others were recorded in early 1982.
