Saturday afternoon: Arcola, IL

Arcola is a little town south of Champaign, and it's certainly a farm town. The streets were all deserted at 4:50 on Saturday afternoon. It prides itself in its Amish heritage, and indeed, there were buggies in quite a few driveways. The buggies just drove down the street like they were cars, with big orange triangles on the back so you don't hit 'em at night.

Of course, with all the horsies pulling all the buggies, there was a LOT of horse poop on the roads, most of it flattened by passing cars. Luckily, we found a big fresh mound on the side of the road, unsullied by indiscriminate Michelins. We are proud to bring to you a picture of it.

Andy: Aren't you glad I got my new 600dpi scanner?

Amish Treasures:

  • 1 pouch "Moon Beam" scented bubble bath (hey...it was my first souvenier...I really believed there might be a time in my life where I'd want to smell like a moon beam.)
  • 2 "Amish Country" magnets
  • 2 candles--lilac and blueberry
  • 1 Family Circus bookmark-type thing in which Dolly misunderstands lyrics to a church hymn and is singing, "Andy walks with me... Andy talks with me". Ha ha.
