 CORRECTIONS / UPDATES / CHANGES
Gil Scott-Heron at the Cubby Bear is now 3/31, not 3/3.

No Empathy at the Veterans Acres is postponed.

 CLUB DE WASH DESTROYED
The following is from Rob Jacob's Madison Clubs Newsletter:

The Madison Clubs list is sad to report that the Club De Wash and
the entire Hotel Washington complex was destroyed in a fire on
the morning of February 18th. There were no deaths or injuries but
     the building was completely gutted.

Needless to say this is a big blow to live music in Madison. The
Club de Wash was one of the longest running live music venues in town.
At one time it was the center of Madison's folk scene. Lately it
hosted a variety of rock, folk, country and blues acts.

A vigil is planned in remembrance of the Hotel Washington: Monday,
Feb 19th. 6pm at the State Street corner of Capital Square.

GUESS THE REFERENCE -- LAST WEEK'S WINNERS
The answer: "You Don't Mess Around With Jim", by Jim Croce. 28 people
got it right, and 23 got it wrong, ALL of them guessing "Bad Bad Leroy
Brown". They're practically the same song musically and lyrically.

Last week's random winner is Rob Zeller. (see below for details on the
     NEW way to win)

Last week's best entry was by Mark Barthelemy:

You don't tug on Superchunk's cape
You don't spit into the PIT
You don't pull the mask off the Voodoo Love Mint
And you don't mess around with the List
a dee dee dee-da dee dee da dee dee dee

Honorable mention goes to Eric Nolan:

Thats from Bad Bad Leroy Brown. by Jim Crocie. I resently met mr.
Brown at Kingston mines. He was huge, about 58 years old, wereing a
cowboy hat and a fur coat. He said he was in the marines with Jim
Crocie. He wasnt shooting dice or anything like that, just drinking
Henessy and trying to score some Coke. I heard we used to be a big
Coke dealer. Big guy, I wouldnt fuck with him. he defenitly looks
like he can kick some ass.

Winners, mail me your US Mail addresses so that I can mail you your
fabulous prizes. If you don't claim the prize, I don't mail it.

GUESS THE REFERENCE -- THIS WEEK
I've changed the way the game is run. There will now be TWO winners
each week. One will be for the best entry, and one will be selected at
random from all correct entries. I'm listing complete rules at the end
of the List. Please read them before you enter this week.

Also, I need a better name than "Guess The Reference". A genuine Shows
List Dollar to whoever comes up with the best name.

Next week, I promise, I'll get out of the 70s.

The Shows List is updated late every Thursday night. You can get it over
 the Internet in two ways:

     World-Wide Web: http://www.tezcat.com/~andy/shows/
Mail subscription: <shows@tezcat.com> Ask to be added, and mention
where you found out about the list.

 Please mail to shows@tezcat.com:
     - New shows you'd like to see added
     - Any corrections to anything in the list
     - Subscription requests, or drop requests
     - Information about other shows list across the country
     - Anything other comments, etc

You can also get it from Far Post BBS, (847) 934-6224

There are many other shows lists available on the via email. As far as I
know, unless the address is "listproc" or "listserv", the list is run by a
human, not an automated list-management program.

 RULES FOR GUESS THE REFERENCE:

At the top of the Chicago Shows List each week, a lyrical/literary
reference appears. Your job is to figure out what it is, and make an entry.

 * Entries must be mailed to <shows@tezcat.com>, and should contain the
word "GUESS" at the beginning of the subject line. Your guess must
include both title of the song, as well as artist/band. If it's a
literary reference, it should contain the title of the work, as well as
     the author's name.

 * There are two ways you can win: Best Entry and Random Correctness.
     * Best Entry: The best entry to be submitted will win. It could be
the funniest, or the most knowledgeable, or whatever. It's up to
you. My decision will be entirely subjective. Your entry must
still contain a guess, and I'll weight heavily in favor of those
         who get it right.

If you win Best Entry, I'll reproduce your entry in next week's
list, so don't put anything in there you don't want published.
("This is one of my favorite songs! I last heard it while cheating
         on my wife...")

     * Random Correctness: I will randomly select an entry from all those
         with correct answers.

 * Only one entry may be made per week. Deadline for entry is whenever I
mail out the next week's list.

 * It is possible that no prize will be awarded for a category. If there
are no correct answers, then the Random Correctness category will have
no winner. If I don't think any entries should win Best Entry, then
     they won't.

 * The prize will always be a genuine Shows List Dollar, mailed by US
Mail. It is the winner's responsibility to check the next week's list
and claim the prize. If you don't claim it, I don't mail it.
