 U2 at Soldier Field
 -------------------
The following info is from Thursday's Chicago Tribune:

U2 announced plans Wednesday for one of the most ambitious rock tours
of the decade. The band will play stadiums in 62 cities in 20
countries, including a June 27 performance at Soldier Field. Tickets
($52.70 and $37.50) for the Chicago date will go on sale at 10 a.m.
Saturday at Ticketmaster outlets and by phone. There will be a
10-ticket limit per person. Random number distribution will begin at
Ticketmaster outlets at 9 a.m. Saturday. No camping will be allowed.

U2's PopMart tour, which begins April 25 in Las Vegas, is designed to
evoke a science-fiction disco, with a 150-by-50-foot video screen, in
keeping with the dance-oriented vibe of the group's new record, "Pop,"
due out March 4. A 200-person crew and 1,200 tons of equipment will be
needed to stage the show, which will be transported on 15 buses and 52
trucks. The video network VH1 will sell some tickets for the Chicago
date beginning at 7pm Friday, when an 800 number will be flashed on the
screen, with a limit of six tickets per caller.

For those of you who haven't done the random number thing before, it works
like this: The ticket place has a bag of, say, 100 carnival-style tickets
numbered 1-100. Each person there gets a numbered ticket. Then, at about
9:45, they'll announce the starting number, and people are lined up based
on that number. If the starting number is 62, then whoever has #62 is
first in line, #63 is second, and so on. After #100 is in line, they start
over at #1. This means if you pulled #62 you're in luck; if you pulled #61,
 you're screwed.

The whole purpose is to make people not have to camp out for days to
insure being first in line. Theoretically, everyone will have the same
chance to get good tickets. One thing I would do is make sure you're at
the ticket place at 9:00am, and by 9:30 at the latest, because once the
starting number has been drawn and people are lined up, anyone else
arriving gets stuck at the end of the line.

 Throwing Muses in Valaraiso, IN
 -------------------------------
Throwing Muses will be playing Valparaiso University on April 12th. The
following ticket info is directly from the guy who's putting it on:

I will be handling tickets for this NOT thru TicketMaster, but in a
DIY fashion -- there will only be 400 tickets available, 200 of which
will be on reserve for Valparaiso University students... I will be
accepting mail from people that would like to go if postdated by:
Saturday, February 22 -- please send a check (made out to "Kurt Greif")
or well-concealed cash AND a SASE to: WVUR 95.1 FM c/o Kurt Greif --
Events Coordinator 816 Union Street Valparaiso, IN 46383

The first two-hundred received will get a tickets mailed back to them --
LIMIT of 2 tickets/person. If you are not within the first 200 I will
mail your money back to you. If tickets from the 200 for the VU
students are still available on April 4th, then tickets will be on sale
at our April 4th show. A portion of the ticket proceeds will go to
     Habitat for Humanity.

 Guess The Reference
 -------------------
Last week: "Badge" by Cream. Random winner was Steve Forstneger. Best
entry was from Mike Grammas, who supplied some relevant trivia, which
 always warms my heart:

When Clapton was writing this song, he was hanging out with George
Harrison (whose wife he would later steal) and the Beatles. Eric and
George were writing the lyrics when they were trying to come up with
the line after "I told you not wander 'round in the dark". A tipsy
Ringo had recently entered the room and mumbled "I told you about the
swans, that they live in the park". I always picture that scene when I
hear that part of the song.

Winners, send me your US Mail addresses. Past winners: I'll try to mail
 out your prizes this weekend.

Rules: The first few lines in the heading of the List are a reference to a
song. Mail your guess of song title and band to shows@tezcat.com. Put
your guess in the Subject field. A random correct entry and the best
entry of the week (if any) each win a fabulous Shows List Dollar.

The Shows List is updated late every Thursday night. You can get it over
 the Internet in two ways:

     World-Wide Web: http://www.tezcat.com/~andy/shows/
Mail subscription: <shows@tezcat.com> Ask to be added, and mention
where you found out about the list.

 Please mail to shows@tezcat.com:
     - New shows you'd like to see added
     - Any corrections to anything in the list
     - Subscription requests, or drop requests
     - Information about other shows list across the country
     - Anything other comments, etc

You can also get it from Far Post BBS, (847) 934-6224

There are many other shows lists available on the via email. As far as I
know, unless the address is "listproc" or "listserv", the list is run by a
human, not an automated list-management program.
